A Qualitative Study of the School Lives of High-achieving African American Girls Attending Middle School in a Suburban School District : What Factors Contribute to Success? (9780773443341)

This ethnographic study provides a description of the school lives of a group of high-achieving African American adolescent girls attending middle school located in a northeastern American city, employing an inter-sectional lens to investigate factors important to the girls' academic achievement, including personal factors, district and school policies and practices, and the intersections of race, gender, class and ability. It investigates why adolescent Black girls succeed in school rather than focusing on why they fail.
